Chrysalis Communications Establishes Itself As Regional Website Developers

While Chrysalis Communications is undoubtedly one of the top companies for website development in Jamaica, we are also proud to announce our expansion into other Caribbean regions.

Earlier this year, we announced our partnership with Grenada’s National Water and Sewerage Authority (NAWASA). We were very excited about the opportunity to develop NAWASA’s website from the ground up and were pleased to announce its launch on March 21, 2014.

Our Managing Director, Christopher Mills, travelled to Grenada to attend the official launch of the website. We would love to share highlights from that event with you.

The website represents a major milestone for NAWASA. Though active on social media, the Authority did not have a website prior to this. As NAWASA’s General Director, Christopher Husbands noted, the website will serve as an alternative medium for customers to share their concerns with the company.

The launch establishes Chrysalis Communications as regional website developers, following the October 2012 launch of the website for the Turks and Caicos Islands Financial Services Commission (TCIFSC), also developed by the Chrysalis Communications team.

TCIFSC is an independent statutory body tasked with the supervision of the financial services sector in the Turks and Caicos Islands. It is also responsible for the oversight of company formation and registration, and is accountable for its performance to the Government of the Turks and Caicos Islands.

It’s often said that various forms of social media have existed since the very beginning of mankind, when human beings started communicating with each other. More recently, however, the term social media has been used to describe various Internet-based applications that allow the creation and exchange of user-generated content.

Social media is not only used by individuals to keep in contact with friends, but also by brands as an effective means of interacting with their audience. Social media has made such an impact that we would consider it to be a necessary tool in the marketing arsenal of any business.

Social media (such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.) differs from traditional media (newspapers, television, radio, etc.) in many ways. For this reason, it has several distinct advantages when compared with traditional media.

Find, Convert, Keep

Traditional marketing prioritizes finding and converting new prospects, but places less emphasis on keeping these newfound customers. Social media marketing has flipped this model by prioritizing retention and allowing retained customers to find and convert for you through word of mouth.

To put this into perspective, we can compare a television advertisement with a short-term Facebook campaign. The television commercial places greater emphasis on catching the attention of potential customers and makes an effort to convince them to buy into their product or service. However, the television advert places little to no emphasis on retaining these newly converted customers.

The Facebook campaign, on the other hand, places emphasis on catching the eyes of potential customers and converting them, but prioritizes retaining these customers by using various interactive techniques, while encouraging fans and followers to become “brand ambassadors” and spread the good news about your product or service.

Fixed vs. Flexibility

Social media offers a level of flexibility that traditional media does not afford. For example, once an article in a newspaper is published, it cannot be taken back. The most that can be done is to publish a retraction in a subsequent issue. Social media allows for editing of content to suit any situation. In our fast paced world, it’s easy to see how this can be advantageous. Audience vs. Community

Social media allows brands to build communities that are dedicated to celebrating what’s great about the brand, while discerning what’s not-so-great, in an effort to constantly improve and evolve. Conversely, traditional media only allows a brand to build an audience – a group of persons who will intake information, but will not contribute to a discussion.

A community affords a much higher level of interactivity when compared with an audience. This level of interactivity is perhaps social media’s main distinguishing factor.

Connectivity vs. Interactivity

Social media is interactive, while traditional media is passive. The former not only encourages a response from fans and followers, it requires it. Social media makes it extremely easy for your target audience to provide feedback and constantly interact with you. Traditional media, on the other hand, does not readily provide the means for your audience to interact with your brand and with each other. Traditional media fosters connectivity, not interactivity.

These are just a few of the many distinctions between traditional media and social media. It’s easy to see how social media can be advantageous to any 21st century business.

Chrysalis Communications Launches Website for ariLabs Skincare

The Chrysalis Communications team is proud to announce our launch of a website for ariLabs Skincare.

ariLabs Skincare

ariLabs was founded by Dr. Patricia Yap and Felice Campbell in 2011 to address an increasing demand for effective and affordable over-the-counter solutions for common skin conditions.

Renowned Jamaican dermatologist, Dr. Patricia Yap, saw the need for the ariLabs line of products after experiencing difficulties with her own skin during her teenage years.

Along with her co-founder, Felice Campbell, Dr. Yap developed the ariSulfur Face and Body Treatment Bar, the first in a line of products specifically developed to treat skin issues such as acne, ingrown hairs and liver spots. The Treatment Bar was launched in 2012 and received the award for Most Innovative Skincare Product by the Jamaica Observer.

Next, the ariScalpBlend Hair and Scalp Treatment was launched in October 2013.

The ariLabs website is both aesthetic and functional. It features a wealth of information on the line of products, including testimonials, frequently asked questions and locations where the products can be found. The site is responsive and will display beautifully on mobile devices. This is especially important when one considers that a large percentage of Internet users are using mobile devices to browse.

A few months ago, we changed our logo to the one you’re currently seeing. Prior to this, our old logo served us well for twelve years. However, in this our 13th year, as we seek to enhance our visibility within the region, a stronger, fresher identity was needed. Our new butterfly is beautiful and bold, yet delicate – a fitting representation of our attention to detail and our appreciation for aesthetics.


When the operators of Jamaica Rhino Safaris set up their business in Jamaica after years of running communication businesses in London, they were hard pressed to find an agency in Jamaica that could fulfill their logo design needs. Chrysalis more than filled their bill. We were excited to work on this project and they were very pleased with the end results.
